Coming from a poor family, getting by on meager means was imperative to survival.
Bargain hunting is a talent that develops from a desire or need to obtain the very best, or the greatest quantity possible for the absolute lowest cost. This applies to everything, from basic necessities to the non-essential luxuries in life.
I have spent a lifetime perfecting the ART OF bargain hunting. The only time I can be ac cussed of “impulse” buying is if I stumble upon an item that I am familiar with and know I can’t find a better deal anywhere else.
Over the years I have developed a knack for thoroughly researching every aspect of anything that I need or want, I will go so far as to investigate the basic contents of a consumer product so I will know whether similar products are really as comparable as they appear on the surface, the old saying “comparing apples to oranges” stands true in everything you are interested, often times you’ll be looking for an apple but discover the Orange will be the best bargain.
I am always frustrated whenever I talk to someone about a product and discover that they happily pay $100.00 for a name brand product and could care less that the very same product, packaged by they same manufacturer as a generic “no name” product can be purchased for half, or less than what they paid. These people are more concerned about bragging rights – they have the “name” brand. I can’t understand that mentality.
If you want to be a successful bargain hunter, you need to do research in order to appreciate the value of what your looking for, familiarize yourself with the sources for the item, and identify all the “middle men” that stand between you and the original source then learn the lowest and highest price of your desired item, then you will be better prepared to recognize an unusually good bargain when it presents itself.
Look to the manufacturer to see if it can be obtained directly from them. Can the item be found used, but in new or like new condition? Can you barter? exchange a product or service at your disposal for the item.
About 12 years ago my bargain hunting has moved to the Internet, it provides an incredible opportunity to do “everything” I mentioned previously, in a matter of hours you can have a clear idea of what a “fair” price is for your item “and” if you can’t hold out for a better deal, you can even find the absolute lowest price for the item today. If there are multiple features involved, you will be able to do side by side comparisons in order to determine the best bargain.
I will first explore retail sources and ascertain a “fair” retail price, then I will look for unconventional sources, if applicable I will seek out sources for “like new” condition for substantial savings.
The summation of all that I mentioned here is that the ART of bargain hunting involves research, valuation and comparison.
I enjoy Bargain Hunting so much that my wife and I have started a business venture years ago, our business agenda is to locate the best bargains for desirable consumer goods and present the sources to our friends and customers through our web site. In some cases we actually resell with the express intention of making a small profit which serves as a pitence of a “finders fee.” Perhaps theres a bargain hunter hidden within you, if so, unleash the animal, once you’ve perfected the art, share your talent(s) with others!
Chris Lonergan is a life long Bargain hunter who wants to share the gratification obtained from locating the Absolute “best” deal! His most recent attempt to help others in this prosperous venture can be seen in the deals he presents to his existing customers through the web site he painstakingly created for his wifes catalog business.
